Day 4: Zurich Day 2 - Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall

Today we navigated the Swiss Federal Railway system for the first time and managed to make our way to Rheinfall. The entire trip took roughly one hour, each way, with a 3 minute transfer at Winterthur. Luckly, we made the connection each way.
Upon arriving at Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall we climbed up to the tourist ticketing booth, where we paid 5fr. each to gain access to the walking trails and museum. There is a youth hostel, restaurant, and museum inside the castle courtyard.

We went into the museum and learned the history of the falls and even saw a clavichord that was used to represent the fact that the museum was once an Arts school.

We continued to the lookouts and took in the view. At one of the lookouts we were both able to get pictures of each of us. Even Bear decided to jump into one!

Once we were done at the lookouts we took an elevator back up. We crossed the river on a railway bridge that was upstream from the Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall. We did not see any reason to pay the 2 CHF each to cross on a boat. The walk around to the other side of the Reinfall provided the best view of the water fall and Schloss Laufen. As seen below.

It is amazing that the flowers in Switzerland are all in bloom. On the way back up and over the Rhein, we took the chance to give everyone back home a touch of the season.

Mary made a point of counting the number of stairs. She determined that we climbed almost 500 stairs, up and down! Surprisingly, Mary was able to keep her knee from falling apart. She only had to take one or two breaks to stretch it out.
The day trip did not take the entire day, so we went to a nearby park and read our books. Below you can see a picture of Mary "reading her book".

Finally, we walked up the the nearby University and had a view of the sun going down over Zurich. Tomorrow we will go to either Rapperswil or Winterthur & Schloss Kyburg.
